NetEvidence gives Visibility to ‘invisible’ LANs Guildford, UK –13 May 2010: NetEvidence launches LAN Insight, extending its SaaS solution, Highlight, to provide support for hub and user switches. At-a-glance visibility is now available on the health of Local Area Network (LAN) switches anywhere in an organisation.

Enterprise IT teams no longer require a separate package or service to watch critical LAN components. LAN Insight delivers a unified and visual way to monitor the traffic levels, health and stability of every switch port within an organisation. Operators can also designate certain ports, such as those connecting servers, as ‘critical’ so that any problems can be flagged and treated as serious issues.

Richard Thomas, CEO of NetEvidence says, “Whether stuck in a dusty cupboard or handling traffic in a critical datacentre, the role of the Switch in IP networks is vital for organisations both big and small. Businesses can’t afford to ignore the critical role that LAN switches play in the IT infrastructure. If the LAN does not perform, applications fail, datacentres drift away and money is lost. At that point they become very visible indeed.”

Through its real-time intuitive user interface, Highlight now delivers a single source of information on the performance of an organisation’s end-to-end network and applications – across the LAN, out to DSL, leased line, Ethernet or any other access technology. Customers can add switch reporting by the one or by the hundred.

As businesses move application services away into consolidated datacentres, virtualise or move to cloud-based systems, the LAN/ WAN divide is more blurred than ever. All the parts of an enterprise’s network infrastructure have to be seen to be performing optimally - at all times. With LAN Insight, this broad range of elements can be monitored centrally by one platform that evolves with the Enterprise.

Richard adds, “Highlight’s visibility for LANs benefits both Service Providers and corporate users. Our customers’ needs have driven this development and now everyone has clear, real-time visibility of LAN performance, while retaining the ease of deployment and low impact that people expect from SaaS applications.”

Enterprises seeking better ways of managing IT budgets are considering passing the management of their networks to Service Providers. With greater reliance on external Providers comes greater risk, so customers need edge-to-edge performance visibility to confirm that agreed levels of service are being delivered. Customers want their Provider to monitor the whole infrastructure, but previously could buy only WAN visibility. With Highlight LAN Insight, they have the same easy-to-use interface to monitor their entire network.

Service Providers, on the other hand, are keen to extend their management services beyond WANs and into their customers’ LAN and office environment. With LAN Insight, they now have that option. Service Providers can prove service level delivery and offer a new level of openness to their enterprise customers.

Initially, Highlight LAN Insight will support switches from Cisco and HP with other vendors to be added in future versions.
