Interesting analysis of the global mobile market by Daniel Thomas, Telecoms Correspondent on the FT entitled ‘Mobile operators push for mergers to survive’. Whilst regulators are currently holding back the consolidation of mobile operators in local markets in an attempt to maintain the balance of competition, mergers are likely to feature across the globe over the next few years.

A driving force behind many of these mergers is the need to invest in new technologies. Mobile operators must be able to satisfy the growing demand for bandwidth-heavy applications such as video.

This presents an interesting dilemma for many organisations. How do they select the best network operator to meet their business needs and how can they then ensure that services are delivered as promised, if and when their provider is merged with a competitor?
