Highlight is built around two core capabilities:
Fast Stats EngineThe Fast Stats Engine (FSE), a proprietary and very fast storage system designed specifically to store and retrieve this type of data while staying scalable and very fast. The FSE uses a pre-sort architecture with multi-level caching to ensure that performance is quick and consistent. |
Highlight Presentation SystemThe Highlight Presentation System (HPS) is a radically different user interface which emphasises simplicity while actually using sophisticated graphics to convey a lot of information to all levels of user. |
Northbound interfaces both for data input, using standard formats to accept data in anything from Email to XML, and output where data can be extracted in CSV or XML formats. A range of alerts based on the Highlight Management Information Base (MIB) can be sent to SNMP management platforms, such as Openview and NetCool.
Southbound, Device-specific modules allow collection from, and reporting on, locations which use any device supporting SNMP. For devices with more powerful capabilities, such as Lucent SLA monitoring or Cisco Applications-level Analysis, Highlight utilises these features. Importantly, Highlight converts device- or vendor-specific capabilities into generic, internal formats which - without losing or compromising features - simplifies storage and means the user is always presented with a consistent, clean set of information.
